OnePlus is reportedly working on the next-generation models of its S series. However, it is claimed that the company will name the series OnePlus S5, skipping the OnePlus S4.
In many Asian cultures, the number “4” is considered unlucky, which is why Chinese brands often avoid it in product naming. A tipster has shared preliminary details about the upcoming OnePlus S5 series, suggesting that the company will bypass the “S4” branding for its sub-flagship phones. Let’s see what information the tipster has shared about the OnePlus S5 series.
OnePlus S5 and OnePlus S5 Pro Expected Soon
According to a recent Weibo post by tipster Digital Chat Station, both the standard and Pro versions of the OnePlus S5 series will be released earlier than expected in China. The OnePlus S3, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, was launched last January. The OnePlus S3V, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 processor, was unveiled in March, and the OnePlus S3 Pro, featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, was introduced in June.
Reports suggest that OnePlus may unveil the OnePlus S5 and OnePlus S5 Pro by the end of the year. The series will follow a strategy similar to the OnePlus S3 series, featuring flagship chipsets paired with ultra-large silicon batteries. Additionally, significant design upgrades are expected.
Currently, there is no information available about the OnePlus S5V, which is anticipated to be the most affordable model in the S5 lineup. The previous generation OnePlus S3V was rebranded as the OnePlus Nord 4 in markets like India and Europe. Thus, the OnePlus S5V might be introduced as the OnePlus Nord 5 in other markets.
The OnePlus S3 was rebranded as the OnePlus 12R for the global market, indicating that the OnePlus S5 might be rebranded as the OnePlus 13R outside China. The OnePlus 13, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, is expected to launch in China in October or November. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R are anticipated to hit the global market in January next year.
